Stripe payments

Connect every signed agreement to the payment that starts the work.

SmartSigner is built for service teams that want the signature and payment to happen together. Add one-time payments, recurring payments, or both, then track the status from the same workspace.

SmartSigner trust record

Agreement, signature, payment, and audit details stay tied together.

Payment at signing

When a document requires payment, the signer can complete the agreement and continue into Stripe Checkout from the signing flow.

One-time and recurring

Pricing tables can support deposits, fixed-fee packages, monthly retainers, and mixed setup-plus-recurring workflows.

Connected accounts

SmartSigner uses Stripe Connect so each workspace can link its own Stripe account instead of handing over API keys.

For deposits

Collect the first payment before project work starts.

  • One-time payment blocks
  • Amount shown in agreement and payment dashboard
  • Receipt and payment status tied to the document

For retainers

Turn recurring service terms into a signed and paid monthly workflow.

  • Recurring payment support
  • Monthly amount visible in payment views
  • Signer completion and payment status tracked together

For mixed offers

Handle a setup fee plus an ongoing subscription from the same agreement flow.

  • One-time plus recurring pricing models
  • Transparent totals for the signer
  • Combined payment reporting for collected revenue

How payments work

The signer finishes the agreement and the payment path stays attached.

SmartSigner keeps payment status separate from signature status, so a signed document can still show whether payment is paid, pending, expired, or ready to restart.

Each workspace connects Stripe.

Funds route to the sender's connected Stripe account. Users never paste API keys into SmartSigner.

One-time

Use for deposits, setup fees, fixed projects, and one-off service packages.

$1,000 project deposit

Recurring

Use for monthly retainers, care plans, maintenance, support, and ongoing service agreements.

$250 monthly retainer

Mixed

Combine an upfront payment and a recurring payment in the same document and signing flow.

$1,000 upfront + $250/mo

Sign-only stays simple.

If a document does not need payment, send it as a normal signature-only agreement.

Collect now, charge later.

For delayed starts, collect payment authorization during signing and schedule the charge for later.

  1. 1Choose payment terms in the template.
  2. 2Signer completes required fields and signature.
  3. 3Stripe Checkout or saved-payment authorization starts.
  4. 4Documents and payments dashboards show the final state.

Buyer questions

Answers prospects look for before trusting a sign-and-pay flow.

Does SmartSigner collect payments into its own account?

The intended architecture is Stripe Connect: each SmartSigner workspace connects its own Stripe account, and signer payments route to that connected account through Stripe.

Can a free workspace collect payments?

No. The Free plan is sign-only. Payment collection starts on paid plans so the pricing page stays transparent about which tiers include Stripe-powered payment collection.

What happens if a signer signs but does not pay?

The agreement remains visible with signature completion and payment status separated, so the sender can resend or restart the payment path when needed.

Are Stripe fees included in SmartSigner pricing?

No. Stripe processing fees are separate from SmartSigner subscription pricing and depend on the connected Stripe account and payment method.
