Step-by-step workflow

From reusable template to completed agreement.

Step 1

Choose a reusable template

Start from a service agreement, deposit agreement, monthly retainer, change order, or your own uploaded/imported document.

Step 2

Add client and signer details

Fill sender, signer, company, email, and any custom variables that are present in the selected template.

Step 3

Set payment terms when needed

Use sign-only, one-time payment, recurring payment, setup fee plus recurring, or charge-later workflows.

Step 4

Send a private signing link

The client opens a guided signing page, completes required fields, signs, and continues to payment if payment is required.

Step 5

Track completion

Signed, pending payment, paid, expired, voided, and completed states stay tied to the agreement record.

Sign-only documents

Use SmartSigner when you only need a clean e-signature flow and completion record. Payment blocks are optional.

Payment at signing

Collect a deposit, setup fee, project payment, or package payment immediately after the client signs.

Product questions

Common questions about the SmartSigner workflow.

Can SmartSigner send documents without payment?

Yes. Payment is optional. SmartSigner supports sign-only agreements when you only need a client signature and completion record.

Can one document include one-time and recurring payments?

Yes. SmartSigner is built for mixed service workflows, such as a one-time setup fee plus a monthly retainer in the same signed agreement.

Does the client need a SmartSigner account?

No. Clients can open a private signing link, fill required fields, sign, and continue to payment without creating a SmartSigner account.

What happens after a client signs?

If payment is required, the client continues to the payment step. If the document is sign-only, the agreement can complete after required signatures are collected.
